1st Grade Learner Pathway

First-grade boys at Allen-Stevenson are joyful, curious, and engaged learners. They love being a part of a group, whether collaborating with peers or developing friendships based on mutual interests.

We also know boys at this age are doers and enjoy bringing their life experiences into the classroom. Actively engaged in their learning, these boys blossom when given opportunities to discover, invent and make connections, often expressing their newfound knowledge and understanding through various creative outlets.

As new challenges arise, teachers encourage the boys to approach these tasks with a growth mindset, practicing smart risk taking and positive self talk as they learn new skills and strategies. Over the course of their first-grade year, boys begin to internalize routines and expectations, allowing them to take on increased independence and responsibility, with teachers nearby to guide and support them.
